Introducing the new certification procedure for accessible websites
At the 6th Swiss Symposium on E-Government, on Wednesday, August 16 2006, the new quality certificate was presented to the public.
This is Access for all – a swiss project to furthering the cause of web accessibility by offering free informations and qualified user centered testing of websites and web-applications.
Access for all offers a certification procedure for accessible websites. The Test corresponds to the WCAG 1.0. Certified websites are also completely accessible to people with disabilities and seniors. The foundation "Acces for all" is the independent certification office for accessible websites in Switzerland.
Content is published in the 3 (of 4) swiss languages: german, french and italian.
Goals of Access for all
The Swiss foundation for technology adapted to people with disabilities sees itself as an intermediary between users and equipment and information providers in the public and private sectors.
Its primary objectives are:
- Raising public awareness, and especially that of information providers (banking services, e-commerce, e-business, libraries, public transport, distance learning), about the utilisation abilities and limitations of disabled users
- Supporting and initiating development and research projects in the field of access technology.
- Establishing a documentation centre to support information providers and equipment manufacturers
- Informing and training disabled computer users, where the emphasis is placed on techniques to achieve greater independence (the internet pathway to up-to-the-minute news, specialist knowledge, payment transactions, distance learning etc.)
- Establishing contact with national and international specialist organisations in order to seek synergies.
